Culminating Blog
Throughout my project i faced challenges that made it hard for me. On my research paper i did not know how to put everything together so it would make sense. I do not feel comfortable asking for help but i asked Ms. Mitchell and my family to help with it. I was having a hard time finding a primary source to use for my paper. I asked one of my peer from the class and i found one right away. I feel more comfortable asking people for help when i need it because its easier than just stressing about not being able to do it myself.
I faced some challenges doing my physical party of my project, which was taking care of children who were adopted by a family member of their family. I was shy at first with the teenagers and did not want to talk to them. I talked to them and they actually opened up to me about their personal life. Another challenge was learning how to communicate with the younger children. I talked to them in a way they would understand but still know that i was in charge not them. I was able to open up to both teenagers and younger children and be able to listen to them and try to give them advice if they needed it.
I feel like i did grow as a person after this a lot. Personally because i can now open up to people that i feel i can trust and ask for help when i need it. Socially because i can communicate and work with people easier. Team work is easy for me because i am able to see every person's view point about something. I can now talk in front of a group of people and not be shy. I was able to get all the kids and be able to dance a routine in front of their guardians. Intellectually because i learned how to be more patient with people ad maintain a good attitude.

This Wednesday i met with my mentor and we got to work with another group of children. Most of the children are teenagers so we all really connect with each other. My mentor let me lead the check in and come up with a question which was, if you could be any actor from a movie for one day who would it be? After we did that i helped them do a drawing that i later helped them paint. It was really fun and they children liked it. My mentor told me that shes thankful that i come because im a really big help. My task for the next time is to lead the check in and ask them a more interesting question that will tell me something about their life.

This Tuesday i went to work with my mentor. My mentor assigned me to work with the little kids so that she could do a project with the older kids. Itwas really fun to see the kids smiling and playing together. Most of them dont really get alond because they dont like to share, but when i played with them and showed them to share they were all having fun after a while. Atfer a while i got to play with the older kids a board game and it was funny we all didnt know what to do. That dayi learned that sometimes you just have to work together and share so that things will be okay. My task the next time im with my mentor and we arw with the same group of kids is to interacct more with the older group of kids and get to know more about their interests.

This Wednesday i got to work once again with my mentor but this time we were helping at a place with a different group of kids. There was alot of kids ranging from really young to my age. I got to talk to the girl that was my age to find out shes in two grade lower than me because she came from Ethiopia, She was really happy that i wanted to get to know her because she said she feels out of place sometimes so she is always by herself. Then the children played a game they divided into groups and they saw who could build the tallest tower out of paper and last minutes i helped out one group so we won. All the kids were smiling and laughing and it was over all really fun. My task for the next time is to work more with them and see them laugh more because it makes me feel good to see them happy.

They children made collages and i was helping the younger ones with cutting things out from the magazines and glueing them down on to a poster paper. I learned a little about what the kids were into based on what kind of things they wanted to put onto their posters. The oldest was having a little bit of trouble because she didnt know wether to put cool stuff or things that she was actually into. I talked to her and told her that she should find the things that she is into cool it doesnt matter what others think and she was really happy and wanted me to help her with her poster. My task for the next time is to talk to the older child a little more and actually get a chance to find out what kind of things she is into and what she likes. I was also able to ask permission to take a picture of them with their posters and it was okay.

This thursday was the fifth time that i was able to work with my mentor again. It was a new group of children and they were are younger children. I was able to help one of the older children find something she was able to play on the computar and she was really nice and thought i was really helpful. then i was able to watch the younger ones play with little toys on the carpet. They begged me to help then build something with the leggos and i did and i felt good to later see them smile and having fun playing with something that i helped them build. After it was done i walked the children back to their caregivers. My Mentor told me that she was really happy to be working with me because im a big help and that she really appricates what im doing. That made me happy to see and work with her again with the children because its something i enjoy. My task for the next time is to help my mentor with anything she needs and get more invovled with the children .

It was really fun because they did a check in and we got to say our names and what we got for christmas. Most of the children were happy that i was there because i was a teenager and they wanted me to be their friend. They were doing a project of making a vision board , i helped them cut thing out of the magazines that they wanted ini their future and glue it on poster board. The children kept calling my name to come help them and asking me if i thought things were pretty so they could put it in the poster. I felt really accomplished that day like i was able to learn the names and i cant wait till i go back because they were a fun group of children. My task for the next time im with the same group of children is to get to know them and see what kind of things they like.
